On Saturday 9th July, Grange Methodist Church held a sponsored walk across the sands of Morecambe Bay from Sandgate to Chapel Island and back. The walk was led by one of the Queen's Guides from the Guide over Sands Trust.
Chapel Island is located in the Leven estuary of Morecambe Bay (on the Ulverston side of the Cartmel Peninsula). In the 14th century,
Augustinian Canons from Conishead Priory built a small chapel on the island to serve the needs of travellers and fishermen. Ruins are still visible to this day. More information here.
Thanks to all who helped to organise, publicise, take
part in, bake for, or sponsor participants for our walk. In the end we sold all 75 tickets but on the day had
69 walkers - a mix of church folk, friends of church folk and others
who'd booked from seeing our publicity. So far we have raised over £1900
through ticket sales, sponsorship and donations for cakes and
refreshments, including gift aid on
sponsorships and donations. The weather was also fabulous and
everyone seemed to have a good time. Pics and video will be here soon...
Proceeds are all in aid of our building redevelopment scheme - click the logo for more details.
