On Saturday 9th July, Grange Methodist Church are organising a Sponsored Walk across the sands of Morecambe Bay from Sandgate to Chapel Island and back. The walk will be led by one of the Queen's Guides from the Guide over Sands Trust.

Chapel Island is located in the Leven estuary of Morecambe Bay  (on the Ulverston side of the Cartmel Peninsula).   In the 14th century, Augustinian Canons from Conishead Priory built a small chapel on the island to serve the needs of travellers and fishermen. Ruins are still visible to this day.  More information here.

This is an opportunity for a different walk out onto the sands from the more well known cross-bay walk, and is also shorter than the cross-bay walk (5 miles in total,) making it suitable for less experienced walkers and children. We have a total of 75 places available on the walk with a minimum contribution of £15 per adult and £5 per child.Open for Community project logo - small
