South Lakes Methodist Circuit Advent Fellowship Groups: Which one will you join?
Revd Graham Ransom will be running a Zoom Advent Course, ‘To live again’, based on the film ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, on Thursdays at 2pm from 26th November. Please email Graham for the zoom link or phone 01229 583198.
Just as Christmas can promise so much and often deliver so little, our own lives can seem bittersweet when we consider dreams we may have had that never came to pass. But, as George Bailey discovered in the classic Christmas movie, ‘It's a Wonderful Life’, it is never too late to re-evaluate our lives, to find so much to be thankful for, and to live again. This can also be a time to discover new hope in our relationship with God. In four weekly study sessions, structured around key scenes from the film, it explores the following themes: Hopes and Dreams; When Life Doesn't Go Our Way; In the Dark Times; The Right Perspective.
Jo will be facilitating this four week series, written for 2020 to reflect together on the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah, and on what the future looks like for unsettled Christians at Christmas. Through videos, discussion questions, and ‘apprentice pieces’ (challenges to work on between sessions), ‘Unsettled Advent’ helps us to admit our struggles, but also discover that God is in them - and maybe, by disorganising and reorganising us, showing us how to have a good conversations and how to dare to lead, God will bring into being a new dawn.
Deacon Maggie Patchett will be facilitating ‘Now – and Then: Reflecting on 2020 through the Christmas Story, in two ways:
1. There will be a group meeting together using Zoom – on Wednesdays at 2pm, starting on 25th Nov, for 5 weeks – 4 weeks of Advent and a final one just before Christmas on 23rd Dec. Please let her know if you need joining links.
2. For those not able to access Zoom, or who prefer not to, we will be sending printed materials to you week by week, included with your weekly Sunday service.
Please email Maggie for the zoom link, or phone 015394 42971
If you have a nativity crib at home you might like to get it out ready, and we will gradually build up the scene over the weeks. If you don’t have one, here are the links:
If it would help to have this pre-cut, please let Deacon Maggie know and it will be sent along with the next printed service. You could find an empty box to use for the stable if you wanted. You just need to cut the rectangles with the figures on and fold them in half. Each week there will be instructions as to what should be added, along with a reading and pointers for reflection. It may feel a little before Advent still, but we wanted to get the materials to you in time, so that you have each of the 4 + Christmas reflections before we get to Christmas Day!
You might like to discuss your thoughts with others in your family, or on the phone to each other. Do call Deacon Maggie if you have any questions.
We hope you will be able to join in with this – either on line if you can, or individually at home as we all find time and space to ‘wait and prepare’ for the coming of our Lord.
